The Vegan Dessert Stop Global Warming Tip of the Day!

In the "Sunday Styles" section of today's New York Times there's an article about about how allegedly "eco-friendly" consumer products don't do all that much to help the environment. Rather than doing good for the environment, they simply make consumers feel good about themselves.

Yet, that's not what I want to talk about--don't get down on yourself.

The article contained a side-box with tips to reduce your carbon footprint excerpted from the book "The Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook." Most of them I'd already heard of or simply will not do (i.e. eat tofu instead of meat). However, there is one tip that I hadn't thought of, and isn't all that hard to follow:

"Pull the plug. Appliances like televisions and VCRs still suck power when turned off. An estimated 95 percent of the energy consumed by cellphone chargers comes when they are left plugged in."

That bit about cellphone chargers was pretty surprising to me--if a cell phone charger isn't charging than why does it consume so much energy? Even if it doesn't make much sense, it seems easy enough to unplug your cell phone charger when your not using it. This may not actually do much to stop global warming, but at least it will make you feel good about yourself.

Recap--The Vegan Dessert Stop Global Warming Tip of the Day:

Unplug your cellphone charger when you're not using it!

And don't drink bottled watter. That's another easy thing to do.
